Sir Benjamin Stone
1838-1914

There are a number of books and sites on the Web which talk about Sir Benjamin Stone and his contribution to the history of photography and I can't really add much to what they say. Nonetheless, since he is my Great Great Grandfather I've decided I've got an excuse to put up a page featuring some of my favourite photographs which don't seem to appear elsewhere on the Web. Check out the links below if you would like to find out a bit more about him and the many photographs he took.

'Caradoc and the Britons', Warwick Pageant 1906

'Sippers and Topers at Bidford Mop'

'An English Chieftain, his family and Tribesmen', Sherbourne Pageant 1905

Birmingham Central Library Photographic Collection is home to vast numbers of pictures by Sir Benjamin Stone. To find out more see birmingham.gov.uk.

One of the most informative pages on the Web about Sir Benjamin Stone is at adh.bton.ac.uk. This page has a couple of his more well known pictures including the 'Kern Baby'.

rleggat.com also has some basic information, but it doesn't have any photos.

...and finally, one of my favourite pictures, the 'Horn Dance', can be found at www.themorrisring.org.
